This is an interesting development. Facebook has been running a beta test in Thailand and Australia that allows advertisers to place newsfeed like ads within Facebook Messenger.  Now Facebook has announced they are extending the test to all markets.

The ads look almost identical to a news feed ad and are labeled ‘Sponsored’.

 

There are a few nifty features included:

  • Ability to connect to advertisers chatbots from an ad
  • You can use the original in-Messenger ad format
  • Usable for retargeting

You can see if you have access to the beta in Ads Manager and Power Editor. They will be included as an inventory source with automatic placements for your campaign objectives. At the moment they are available for Traffic and Conversion campaign objectives, other types will be available at a later date.
