If you ever wanted to see the seedier side of the internet, simply spend five minutes reading the comments on popular YouTube videos. For some reason, the comments section seems to bring out the very worst in society.
Well, Google has had enough and are now allowing YouTube channel owners partial protection by blocking spam comments. You know the ones, they are usually unrelated promos for dodgy sites.
Now you have a new setting that enables all comments that contain hashtags and URLs to be held for review so you can approve or block them. The comments will not appear until you have approved them, so ignoring them will actually make them go away.
This is a great step towards dealing one with of the many issues with YouTube comments and one that will be openly welcomed by content creators.
Nice work YouTube, now can we do something about the trolls?
