I have to thank a colleague of mine, Nathan for pointing out this story to me.
The two main concerns for content creators are: How can I monetize this and, How do I protect my content from piracy.
Facebook is showing they are about to make a big push for original content creators by addressing one of those needs.
To help creators protect their content (and obviously, to lure them into using Facebook as a platform for their content), Facebook has acquired Source3.
So what is Source3 you ask? In their words: “At Source3, we set out to recognize, organize and analyze branded intellectual property in user-generated content, and we are proud to have identified products across a variety of areas including sports, music, entertainment and fashion.”
In other words, they allow you to see if anyone has copied your content and help you to take action to resolve it.
This is yet more proof that Facebook is serious about luring original content creators to the platform and it will be interesting to watch how things change in content consumption if they are successful.
