Well, this is an interesting development. Facebook has acquired German video startup Fayteq.
So what does Fayteq do that makes this story even remotely interesting? Fayteq are a software add-on for video editing that can either add or remove whole objects from the video using a technology called computer vision (such an eighties name).
Okay, so what does adding and removing objects from video actually mean? Well, have a look at this animated gif. See how the graffiti is removed and added to the video.
Essentially, this add-on will allow Facebook to do some fancy filter creations ala Instagram.
So what does this mean for digital marketers? Well, nothing at this stage. It does mean we will be getting some fancy filters for video in the near future, but how we can use that will remain to be seen.
