Yes, it’s true, the world has gone topsy-turvy. Cats living with dogs, cars that drive themselves and now…..Twitter is considering doubling the length of tweets to 280 characters.

Twitter has announced it is doing open-ended testing of the new 280 character limit in all languages except for Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

According to Twitter Product Manager Aliza Rosen and Senior Software Engineer Ikuhiro Ihara:“Our research shows us that the character limit is a major cause of frustration for people Tweeting in English, but it is not for those Tweeting in Japanese. Also, in all markets, when people don’t have to cram their thoughts into 140 characters and actually have some to spare, we see more people Tweeting,”

In the ever-increasing challenge for Twitter to remain relevant, this marks a bold new change. Other than more room for abusive presidents to openly harras people, there are some serious upsides to this.

I am keen to hear how your messaging will change once you have the constraints have been lifted.
