Oh, Twitter, I try to love you, but you make it really really hard to do so!
We now live in a world where we have a renewed focus on stopping dumb people from being abusive to others.
You would think that this would mean it would be easy to deal with an online bully that uses Twitter as their own personal abuse tool. But apparently not!
Apparently, it is difficult for them as the person in question is the President of the United States. In a new statement, Twitter has said that is cannot remove Donald Trump from Twitter (despite how abusive and dangerous he is) due to the fact that (and I am going to use their words here as I think this excuse is pathetic):
“Elected world leaders play a critical role in that conversation because of their outsized impact on our society,”
“Blocking a world leader from Twitter or removing their controversial Tweets, would hide important information people should be able to see and debate. It would also not silence that leader, but it would certainly hamper necessary discussion around their words and actions.”
So, in other words: All Twitter users MUST follow the company’s rules, unless, you are a world leader.
“We review Tweets by leaders within the political context that defines them, and enforce our rules accordingly,”
No! Just No Twitter! This is a lame excuse and shows that you are, in reality, just afraid of the consequence. Well, I have some news for you, we are ok with you being afraid. The Trump is a dangerous and vindictive man, but the collective “we” have your back. If you grew the balls to deal with this online bully, the world would rally around you to protect you. This is how a community works.
Sigh, anyway, it looks like 2018 will be another year that Trump embodies the troll that he is.
