This is an interesting, and possibly, much-needed update. Facebook has just updated it’s branded content policy to ensure that creators and publishers do not profit from posting content that they were not involved in creating.
Particularly of interest is one of the new lines in the policy:
“Don’t accept anything of value to post content that you did not create or were not involved in the creation of, or that does not feature you.”
This change will take effect in March and any content found to be in breach of the change will automatically have their reach of their branded content reduced across Facebook and Instagram. Facebook has also stated that any prolonged or continual abuse of the policy may result in the publisher being removed (or limited access to) the monetisation tools.
This change seems pretty obvious to me and will likely not affect most digital marketers, however, I am keen to hear from any publishers that feel they will be affected.
